8 Prayers for Peace in Your Pregnancy
This summer, our son and daughter-in-law shared the most wonderful news for our family—their third baby is on the way! And while we celebrate this new little life and look forward to all that’s ahead, we know that the joys of pregnancy come hand-in-hand with concern.
If you’re expecting your own little one (or loving a mama-to-be in your life), you know all the questions and what-ifs that come with this pregnancy. You wonder,
How much sickness or fatigue will I go through?
Will the baby grow and thrive throughout the pregnancy?
What if there are complications?
How will caring for a newborn fit into an already-busy life?
Will it be tough to cover the costs of doctors, diapers, and childcare?
Am I able to give the baby everything I hope for?
Do I have the support I need?
Can I be “Mom” and still be “me”?
Peace in pregnancy can be found by taking every hope and fear, joy and struggle to God in prayer. As the Creator of the little one you love, he sees you and wants to wrap you in his peace and strength through it all. Today we’re sharing a collection of eight prayers to help you draw near to God and encourage your spirit as you look forward to holding your child in your arms.
1) Grace in My Weakness
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? (Matthew 6:26)
Lord,
As I step into motherhood, the pressure is on to be strong. Decisive. Calm. Capable. Prepared. I’m expected to be these and more as the weight of responsibility rests on my shoulders. Others will count on me for help and answers every day. I’m afraid I’ll lose my nerve. What if I fail? What will happen when my strength or resources are simply not enough? My heart is glad to care for others, but will I accept that I need someone to care for me?
Forgive my bent toward self-sufficiency that denies my need for you. Teach me to be like a little child who trusts you, follows you, and rests in your love. Renew my mind so I better understand how you provide for your own. Keep me constant in prayer so I carry my weakness and lack to you for help. Quiet my fears, grow my faith, and fill me with your peace.
Amen.
2) Freedom from Fear
I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. –Psalm 34:4
Lord,
My imagination runs wild with all the threats, seen and unseen, that could harm the baby I love. Will they thrive in my womb? Will they suffer sickness or accidents as they grow? What might happen at delivery? As a child, will they feel bullied, rejected, or second best? What if they struggle to learn or mature? How will they cope with failed hopes or broken dreams? Will they be happy? Confident? Secure? My fears can steal my sleep and test my faith in you.
Help me to trust in your power and love that never fails. When this world seems chaotic, give assurance that you’re in control. Keep me on my knees in prayer when fears are consuming my thoughts. May I take you at your Word that tells me you’re my “refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). Fill me with brave and steady hope that breathes peace into my heart and home. I want to praise you every day for your goodness to us all.
Amen.
3) Supported with Love
And we urge you, brothers and sisters, … encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone. (1 Thessalonians 5:14)
Lord,
As I walk this life-changing journey of pregnancy, everyone else seems busy with their own concerns. I know each person is carrying their own kind of stress, needs, and responsibilities. I wonder if it’s fair to burden others with my struggles. If I make myself vulnerable, will I be put down or ignored? Will I be seen as needy or foolish? Should I be able to handle my challenges by myself? I need courage to ask for support and wisdom to know where help can be found.
Lead me to those who will care for me in this season. Use them to encourage me when I feel overwhelmed or too tired to keep going. Provide godly guidance to navigate the road to a healthy mind, body, and spirit. Cultivate grace-filled friendships that will flourish as I step into motherhood. Let me know your love through the love of others.
Amen.
4) Healthy and Happy
Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well. –3 John 2
Lord,
You hold the power of life and healing in your hands. I pray you will give my growing baby all they need to thrive and grow. Shield them from any kind of harm. If their development is threatened, keep them safely on a path to wholeness. Keep us well and strong, secure and healthy as I continue this pregnancy in your loving care.
And as my little one is born and their childhood unfolds, I pray you will open wonderful doors to learn and try new things. Bless them with a strong body and curious mind to discover the world you’ve made. Surround them with a caring community who will build them up and guide their way. Help them to discover your beautiful purpose for all the days of their life.
Most of all, shepherd my little one’s soul so they will know you, trust you, and rest in your love. Write your Word on their heart. Fill them with your Spirit and keep them strong in faith. Be their joy and peace, always.
Amen.
5) A Believing Heart
Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God… (John 1:12)
Lord,
You know the dreams I cherish for my baby. I hope for a healthy body. A joyful spirit. A quick and creative mind. An abundant life. But while these gifts are rich blessings, nothing compares to a heart of devotion to you.
Even now, prepare my little one to believe in you, to know you deeply, and to love you with all that they are. Give eyes that can see you working in their life. Spark a faith that is confident in your goodness and truth. Shield them from deception by those who deny you as Lord over all. Make your Word come alive so they can hear your voice as their Shepherd and follow you every day. Fill them with trusting, childlike faith that endures forever.
Amen.
6) Letting Go of Perfect
But [the Lord] said to me, “My grace is enough for you. When you are weak, my power is made perfect in you.” –2 Corinthians 12:9 NCV
Lord,
My growing baby feels like a miraculous gift from your hand. I long to be a perfectly loving mother who cherishes, nourishes, and protects my little one in every way. Yet so many voices are shouting in my ear, telling me exactly how to nurture and support my child as they grow. The pressure to chase the trophy of “perfect mom” is turning the joy of motherhood into stress and fear. Without your grace, motherhood will leave me exhausted and insecure every day.
Set me free, Lord, from the trap of believing that I have to do it all right and be everything for my baby. Fill me with a humble spirit that depends on you and trusts in your perfect love and wisdom. Make me discerning as I choose who will hold influence over my life as a mom. Teach me how to place my weaknesses in your hands so I can see your power at work in our home. May I anchor my hope in the perfection of your love.
Amen.
7) God Knows My Needs
The Lord is my shepherd; I have everything I need. –Psalm 23:1 NCV
Lord,
As I prepare for the birth of my baby, the list of needs is growing longer every day. Diapers and doctors, a stroller and car seat, blankets and burp cloths—I wonder how far the budget can stretch before it breaks! My anxiety is rising right along with the costs of parenting a little one in these times.
Grow my faith in your loving power to provide all we need. Teach me patience to wait and trust that money and baby gear will be supplied in your perfect time. Help me to discern the difference between wants and needs, and give me a grateful spirit whether I have much or little. Spark creativity to hunt for bargains and repurpose items in fresh ways. Let me be humble so I’m open to any help that’s offered. May this season of nesting be a sweet time of knowing you as the One who cares for my baby, my home, and the hopes of my heart.
Amen.
8) Who I Am in Jesus
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! –1 John 3:1
Lord,
As I fall more and more in love with my baby each day, I realize that I am your beloved child too. You care for my needs. You teach me what’s right and which way to go. When I hurt, you offer comfort and help. You celebrate who I am becoming, and you cherish me as “the apple of your eye” (Psalm 17:8). There is nowhere I can go where you love doesn’t follow me. I am your precious daughter, ever and always.
I pray that as I take on my identity as “mama,” I never forget who I am in you. When I’m exhausted, be my strength. If I’m unsure how to support my little one, let your wisdom become my own. When I make mistakes or let my child down, help me to rest in your mercy. If I’m discouraged, fill me with joy by your Spirit. May I live with courage, confidence, and peace since you are for me through it all. Thank you for your love that never lets me go and tells me who I am.
Amen.
If you’re a mama-to-be reading this, I want to send so much love and encouragement your way. Whether you’re carrying your very first child or already have little ones at home eagerly awaiting a new sibling, the journey of pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood takes incredible courage and strength.
But you’re not stepping into this new chapter alone—God is with you every step of the way. He hears your prayers, holds your fears, and celebrates each small milestone right alongside you.
When our children were growing up and experiencing all of life’s joys and challenges for the first time, one practice made a lasting impact on them—and on us: praying intentionally through every season of their childhood. Whether they were facing struggles at school, learning to make wise choices, or growing in their relationship with God, we found that turning our hopes into prayers and lifting them to the Lord made all the difference.
