It’s no secret that connecting with our kids can be challenging, but sometimes it’s the smallest things that can become launch points for the most meaningful conversations.
Sparking conversations with family is so important to us, and we imagine it is something you desire as well. So we put something new together just for you!
Some of you may know that, in addition to what we partner on at Growing Home Together, Rob also writes joke books for kids. (Over 5 million copies have been sold, which is a little crazy! 🤯)
We were recently thinking about how jokes can often be a great launch point for connection with our kids, whether they are 6, 10, or 15, so we thought we’d give you a simple resource to do just that. (Just fill out the form at the end of this blog.)
Here’s how it works:
- Pick a joke from the printable that your child might like and cut it out. Place it somewhere your child will see it (mirror, lunchbox, by their breakfast spot, etc.)
- Talk about what the answer could be. Make eye contact and be sure to smile and engage with whatever your child shares.
- Share the answer (it’s on the last page of the printable) and use that as a foundation for conversation, whether you talk about something “serious” or just talk about the subject of the joke. There’s nothing wrong with talking about bullfrogs and dragons!
- Repeat!
(Oh, and by the way, if you decide to use this resource, snap a photo! We’d love to see it and share it on our Instagram and Facebook.)
Here’s to creative connection with our kids!
