Growing Through Prayer – Worry and Wanting

Growing Through Prayer - Worry and Wanting

Joanna Teigen

Lord,

You’re the source of all we have. You give strength to our family so we can work hard and play together. Our home and all it holds has come from your hand. You provide nourishing food and refreshing sleep to keep us going through the day. Each loved one and friend who we hold close is a treasure from you. Every aspect of life is sustained by you, our loving Father.

Yet even as you’re faithful to meet our needs, we doubt. We keep a tight grasp on your gifts out of fear they’ll slip away. We worry and strive to get ahead, putting trust in ourselves instead of you. Our hearts crave more, even as you offer peace and perfect satisfaction.

Today, let us be grateful. Quiet our complaints and soothe our fears. Teach us to be content in every situation. Renew our minds to value what’s most important—love for you and others. Show our family how to share generously out of all you’ve provided. Never let us forget your lavish kindness and constant care. Your love is perfect all the time.

Amen.

When the LORD your God brings you into the land…
a land with large, flourishing cities you did not build,
houses filled with all kinds of good things you did not provide,
wells you did not dig, and vineyards and olive groves
you did not plant—then when you eat and are satisfied,
be careful that you do not forget the LORD,
who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
Know therefore that the LORD your God is God;
he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love
to a thousand generations of those who love him
and keep his commandments.
(Deuteronomy 6:10-12, 7:9)
