Growing Through Prayer – My Daughter’s Inner Beauty

My Daughter's Inner Beauty

September 10, 2018

Joanna Teigen

Lord, my daughter is a priceless gift from you.  Her beauty takes my breath away with those gorgeous eyes, contagious laugh, and her warm, affectionate spirit. As a valuable person created in your image, she’s exactly who she ought to be. She’s fearfully and wonderfully made just as you say. (Psalm 139:14)

Yet the world holds a much different message for my daughter. While you look at her heart, she’s judged by others for her outer appearance. (1 Samuel 16:7) The pressure to look perfect and conform to this world is distorting her view of herself. She’s deeply insecure, letting her confidence and joy slip away.

Draw close to my daughter today. Renew her mind to understand your definition of true beauty. Teach her to focus on her heart and mind—her attitudes, wisdom, and love for others. Give her the never-ending loveliness of a gentle and quiet spirit. Let her respond to stress and conflict with calm and careful words. Fill her with peace that soothes and comforts those in pain around her. Use her to bless, help, and encourage her friends and loved ones. Make her courageous, facing every struggle and challenge with resolve to overcome.

Help my daughter to trust you so she’s steady in her faith all the time. Grow her knowledge of your Word and teach her to pray. May she “worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness”, living for you in purity and obedience. (1 Chronicles 16:29) Reveal your glory through my daughter as she bears the fruit of your Spirit.

Capture my daughter’s heart with the beauty of Jesus. As she loves you, may she become truly lovely from the inside out.

Amen.

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment,
such as elaborate hairstyles and the
wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes.
Rather, it should be that of your inner self,
the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit,
which is of great worth in God’s sight.
For this is the way the holy women of the past
who put their hope in God used to adorn themselves.
(1 Peter 3:3-5)
