Growing Through Prayer – For the Father of My Children

Growing Through Prayer - For the Father of My Children

June 11, 2018

Joanna Teigen

Lord,

As we prepare to celebrate Father’s Day, I thank you for calling us your children. You open your arms to us as our heavenly Father. You set a perfect example of leadership, faithfulness, and tender mercy for every dad who loves his kids in this world.

Pour out your blessing on my children’s father today. Give him courage for the daunting task of parenthood. Help him to stand firm when he’s tempted to quit. Energize him to play hard and work harder to stay in the game as a dad. Keep him fighting for his kids’ hearts when they’re troubled or stubborn. Let him reject the lie that he’s insignificant in their lives as they grow.

Help my kids and their dad to connect through quality time, his listening ear, and his understanding attitude. Give him patience with their immaturity and childish habits. Let humor and compassion break down any walls between them. Move in their relationship to attach them closely to one another.

Use him to reveal Jesus to his children as he commits his way to the Lord. Fill his mouth with wisdom for the questions and choices they face. Empower him to teach what’s right, holding up your Word as the source of truth. Make him a man of integrity who can be trusted at all times.

Give him confidence in your grace toward him. He knows his weakness. He regrets his mistakes. He feels unworthy to hold your gift of children in his hands. Help him to rest in your forgiveness and depend on you for all he needs each day.

As our loving Father, you created “family” as a rich treasure for us all. Let my children know you better through the love they receive from their dad.

Amen.

See what great love the Father has lavished on us,
that we should be called children of God!
And that is what we are!
Dear children, let us not love with words or speech
but with actions and in truth.
(1 John 3:1,18)
