Lord, you know the dream I carry in my heart. I’ve told you of this desire pressing heavy on my chest. It waits at the edges of my mind to take over my thoughts in any quiet moment. I’m not alone–every person carries an impossible longing that aches to be satisfied.
No matter how hard I try, I can’t obtain it for myself. Money, hard work, and determination are useless here. There’s no one else to lean on—you’re my only hope.
I’ve been asking and waiting for a long, long time. “Hope deferred makes the heart sick,” so I’m sad and weary today. (Proverbs 13:12) Though I’m surrounded by abundance and blessing, this void is never filled. Today, I plead with you once more to hear my prayer.
Lord, I want to trust you. Help me to believe when you say, “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:9) You’re my perfect Father who knows best. Give me confidence in your timing and your intricate plans for every detail of my life. Take my heart’s request—it’s yours to answer however you will.
Give me patience for what’s to come. You’re never late or slow…let me walk at your pace. Fill me with joy so I’m content in the now. Today has purpose and meaning. Each morning your mercies are new and more than enough. In this moment you’ve filled my hands with all I need to hold. Satisfy my heart with Jesus as I wait for you.
Guard my heart from selfishness that demands my own way. Keep me from complaining or bitterness. Give me strength to keep praying and hoping, no matter how long it takes. Fill me with compassion for the disappointments and longings of others—show me how to encourage and pray faithfully for those around me.
Fill my mouth with gratitude and praise. No matter what my heart desires, be my first and highest love. May I please you with childlike faith that rests in you.
Amen.
Trust in the Lord and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him and he will do this:
He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn,
your vindication like the noonday sun.
(Psalm 37:3-6)
