Episode 108: How to Win the Battle with Overwhelm in Your Family Life—with Ginny Davidson
For parents, March can often feel like the last calm before the storm. Once April arrives, family calendars are inevitably flooded with school exams, spring sports, band concerts and dance recitals, and a whirlwind of other end-of-school-year obligations. Even if our days are full of good things, this hectic time of the year can make us feel tired, stressed, and disconnected from God and one another.
Our guest—a busy homeschool mom of three—can certainly relate to this sentiment. Ginny Davidson is a speaker, author, Bible teacher, and coach. She knows all about how the feeling of overwhelm can hijack our peace, and she’s here to share some powerful tools that can help us win the battle against overwhelm in our family life.
In this episode, Ginny shares:
- Practical tips for assessing your current schedule
- New rhythms we can lean into this spring
- How busyness can be an issue of the heart
- And much more!
We hope the practical strategies discussed in this conversation will bring you confidence and clarity as you assess your family calendar for the coming months.

Our Takeaways:
1) Recognize the signs of overwhelm. These will differ from person to person, but some of the common signs are an overflow of tears, not knowing how you are going to get everything done, or being short with your family members. We need to learn how to spot our signs of overwhelm so we can take steps to make more space in our schedule and turn to Jesus for help.
2) Assess what is on your calendar. There is an endless number of things we could get involved with, sign up our kids for, or put on our schedules. But unfortunately, we can’t do it all, nor has God designed us to survive going nonstop without rest. Assessing our calendar means first asking, what am I called to in this season of life? You may find that saying “no” to some of the obligations that aren’t serving you in this season will free up some much-needed time and headspace to enjoy the things that do genuinely bring you fulfillment.
3) Leave time for connection. We can be all too quick to fill every waking moment with activities or pull out our phones when we get a second to zone out. But rather than packing our calendars to the brim or staying glued to our devices for hours on end, it’s important to schedule the space and time for connection. When we do this, something amazing happens—we start to get creative about having fun with our loved ones! What may start as boredom will turn into family game nights, memorable adventures, and deep conversation and connection as a family.
